Lawyer - Court of Protection (Welfare) - 3+ Years PQE
Location: Hybrid (South Wales offices)

Salary: £50,000 to £62,000 + performance based bonus (DOE)
A leading, award winning law firm is seeking an experienced Court of Protection (welfare) Lawyer to join its expanding and highly successful team. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a nationally recognised practice offering genuine flexibility, hybrid working, and clear progression routes.
Position Overview
The firm is one of the largest Legal Aid providers in Wales and continues to grow its specialist Court of Protection offering across England and Wales. The team is well established, highly regarded, and supported by complementary departments including mental health, crime, and public law.
This role offers hybrid working across the firm's South Wales offices, with the option for nationwide remote working for candidates able to support the team's continued expansion. Applications from outside Wales are welcomed.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and grow a caseload of contested Mental Capacity Act 2005 matters before the Court of Protection
- Prepare and manage complex Legal Aid funding applications and privately funded litigation
- Provide strong advocacy and maintain excellent working relationships with specialist counsel
- Contribute to business development and departmental growth
- Ensure compliance with Legal Aid Agency procedures and standards
- Deliver exceptional client care with empathy and professionalism, particularly when supporting vulnerable clients
Candidate Requirements
This role is suited to a qualified Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive with:
- A current Practising Certificate
- 3+ years PQE in Court of Protection (welfare) matters
- Proven experience managing a contentious Court of Protection caseload
- Strong advocacy skills
- Excellent knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act 2005, Court of Protection practice, and human rights legislation
- A following or established reputation within the Court of Protection welfare space is highly advantageous
