Employment Associate - Bristol - 4-6 Years PQE
Location: Bristol
Type of Role: Permanent, Full-time (with hybrid flexibility)
Salary: £65,000 to £85,000

A respected national law firm is seeking an Employment Associate (4-6 PQE) to join its well established and high performing Employment team in Bristol. The Bristol team comprises two Partners, a Senior Associate and dedicated support staff, forming part of a wider national Employment & HR practice operating across Bristol, Taunton, Manchester, Southampton and Birmingham. Candidates must have achieved a minimum 2:1 at undergraduate level.

This is an excellent opportunity to take on a varied, high quality caseload within a collaborative, ambitious and growing national practice, with strong support for progression, development and client exposure.

The Role
You'll be responsible for advising on a broad mix of contentious and non contentious employment matters, including:

  • Managing employment tribunal litigation from inception to final hearing
  • Handling complex, high value contentious matters with strategic and technical challenge
  • Advising employer clients on day to day HR issues including disciplinary, grievance, redundancy and discrimination
  • Preparing contracts of employment, policies, handbooks and HR documentation
  • Drafting and advising on settlement agreements
  • Supporting corporate transactions with employment related due diligence
  • Advising on employment related data protection matters
  • Managing directions, disclosure exercises and witness statement preparation
  • Acting for corporate employers, senior executives and occasional claimants
  • Contributing to business development, seminars, networking and drafting guidance/articles
  • Working closely with Partners and benefiting from the support of a larger national team


You will have significant influence over how your expertise develops, with strong encouragement to build your profile, deepen your specialism and take on increasing responsibility.

Candidate Requirements
This role is suited to an experienced Employment Associate with:

  • 4-6 years' PQE in employment law
  • A minimum 2:1 undergraduate degree (essential)
  • Strong experience handling a wide range of employment and HR matters
  • Proven ability to manage tribunal cases through to final hearing
  • Confidence managing directions, disclosure and witness evidence
  • Excellent drafting, research and advisory skills
  • Practical, commercially minded advice style
  • Strong client care and organisational skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a national team
  • Interest in business development and supporting practice growth
  • Experience in non contentious/corporate support work (desirable, but training provided)
