Associate - Inquiries & Investigations - Cardiff - 1-3 Years PQE
Location: Cardiff (initial London site attendance required)
Type of Role: Permanent or 12 month contract
Salary: £65,000 to £95,000
A leading national practice is seeking an Associate (1-3 PQE) to join its specialist Inquiries & Investigations team in Cardiff. This is an exceptional opportunity to work on a high profile public inquiry, supporting complex, sensitive and high volume work for a major public sector client.
Although the role is Cardiff based, it initially requires 4-5 days per week on site in central London, and candidates must be willing to travel and work flexibly depending on future instructions. The firm is open to applicants seeking either a permanent role or a fixed term contract.
The Role
- Acting for statutory and non statutory inquiries
- Representing core participants in public inquiries
- Conducting internal investigations and independent reviews
- Liaising with, interviewing and taking statements from witnesses
- Reviewing, analysing and managing large volumes of evidence
- Supporting disclosure projects and document review exercises
- Redacting sensitive and confidential information
- Using specialist IT systems to monitor, analyse and report on evidence
- Attending hearings on behalf of clients
- Assisting with media handling
- Advising on inquiry processes including evidence collection, document management, privilege, FOI, data protection, judicial review and reputation management
Candidate Requirements
- 1-3 years' PQE as a qualified solicitor in England & Wales
- Experience of public inquiries, either acting for an Inquiry or supporting a core participant
- Experience in private practice, government, regulatory or public sector environments
- Previous involvement in large scale disclosure or document review exercises
- Excellent analytical skills and strong attention to detail
- Ability to handle sensitive information with care and judgment
- Strong commercial awareness and financial acumen
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with colleagues, clients and Counsel
- Strong time management skills and ability to work under pressure
- Willingness to work on site in central London five days per week initially
- Ability to obtain UK security clearance (existing SC or DV clearance highly desirable)
