Risk & Compliance Manager - Cheltenham

Are you an experienced Risk & Compliance professional looking to step into a role where you can truly make an impact?

This opportunity sits within a well-established, commercially driven UK law firm with a strong regional presence. The firm is recognised for delivering high-quality legal advice through a modern, client-focused approach, supporting both businesses and private clients across a wide range of sectors.

The Role

This is a key role within the Compliance function, with responsibility for overseeing the firm's day-to-day risk and compliance framework and ensuring full regulatory adherence.

You will play a central role in maintaining compliance standards across the business, ensuring policies, procedures, and risk registers remain current and effective. A large part of the role involves making sure the firm operates in line with SRA Standards & Regulations, AML requirements, GDPR, and relevant FCA rules.

You'll also take ownership of overseeing file opening processes, including conflict checks and risk assessments, and will carry out periodic file audits to ensure accuracy and compliance. In addition, you will support and guide a Compliance Administrator, helping to manage workload and development.

The position requires close involvement in anti-money laundering processes, including due diligence and ongoing monitoring, as well as preparing SARs in conjunction with the MLRO when required.

Working alongside the Head of Risk & Compliance, you'll contribute to wider compliance strategy, stay up to date with regulatory changes, and help embed best practice across the firm. You will also deliver training to staff and produce clear, insightful quarterly reports for senior management.

Candidate Requirements

  • Previous experience operating as a Compliance Manager within a law firm (essential)
  • Strong understanding of SRA regulations, Solicitors Accounts Rules, AML and FCA frameworks
  • Excellent attention to detail with a methodical and analytical approach
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a varied workload
  • Confident communication skills with the ability to influence across all levels

Why Join?

  • Be part of a progressive and highly regarded law firm
  • Take on a visible, business-critical role with real responsibility
  • Work within a supportive, collaborative environment
  • Join a firm committed to quality, innovation, and best practice
