Senior Associate - Clinical Negligence (Defendant) - Cardiff
Location: Cardiff

Salary: £65,000 to £80,000 (depending on experience)

A leading health sector legal team is seeking an experienced Associate or Senior Associate to join its Clinical Negligence practice in Cardiff. This is an excellent opportunity to work within one of the largest specialist teams advising healthcare bodies across England and Wales.

The successful candidate will manage a high quality caseload of complex and high value Defendant clinical negligence claims, acting for major healthcare clients including NHS bodies. You will also supervise junior lawyers and contribute to the continued growth and development of the team.

The Role
You'll be responsible for handling a varied and complex caseload, including:

  • Managing high value and complex Defendant clinical negligence claims
  • Providing high quality legal advice to healthcare clients, including NHS organisations
  • Drafting pleadings, witness statements, correspondence, and other key documents
  • Delegating work and supervising junior lawyers within the team
  • Engaging in settlement discussions, mediations, and hearings where required
  • Building strong client relationships and supporting business development initiatives
  • Ensuring compliance with professional standards and regulatory requirements


Candidate Requirements
This role is suited to an experienced lawyer with:

  • Strong background in clinical negligence (Defendant experience preferred)
  • Ability to manage complex and high value claims independently
  • Excellent drafting, analytical, and communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and enthusiasm for collaborative working
  • Ambition, commercial awareness, and a proactive approach to client service
  • Interest in contributing to team development and wider business growth
