An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Solicitor, Chartered Legal Executive, or experienced Court of Protection case handler to join a specialist team supporting vulnerable individuals with the management of their property and financial affairs. This role is ideal for those with existing Court of Protection experience or Private Client lawyers seeking to transition into this rewarding and client focused area of practice.
The Role
You will work within a dedicated Court of Protection team supporting clients for whom a professional Property & Affairs Deputy has been appointed. The role involves providing specialist legal advice and representation in matters relating to mental capacity, deputyship, and best interest decision making.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing a caseload of Court of Protection matters, including deputyship applications and financial affairs management
- Representing clients in Court of Protection proceedings
- Advising individuals, families, charities, local authorities, and professional deputies on mental capacity and best interest decisions
- Liaising with barristers, medical experts, social workers, and financial professionals
- Acting as a professional deputy where required, overseeing clients' financial affairs, property, and welfare decisions
- Supporting lay deputies to ensure compliance with the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and OPG regulations
- Preparing and submitting applications, reports, and documentation to the Office of the Public Guardian
- Drafting legal documents, witness statements, and Court applications
- Managing your own workload, prioritising tasks, and maintaining accurate electronic files
The role is based at the firm's North Hill office, with the option to work from home part of the week depending on training and business needs.

- Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities
Professional & Technical Expertise
You are:
- A qualified Solicitor (typically 2+ years PQE), or
- A Chartered Legal Executive, or
- A highly experienced case handler with 5+ years' Court of Protection experience
- You demonstrate strong client, technical, and commercial awareness, and are proactive in your professional development.
