Court of Protection Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive - Plymouth
A well established, Legal 500 ranked regional law firm with a strong presence across the South West is seeking a Solicitor, Chartered Legal Executive or experienced case handler to join its respected Court of Protection team. The firm is known for its supportive culture, high standards of client care and long history of serving individuals and families across the region.
The Role
You will play a key role in supporting vulnerable individuals who require assistance managing their financial affairs. Working within a specialist team, you will provide expert legal advice and representation across a wide range of Court of Protection matters. Your work will include:
- Managing a varied caseload of property and financial affairs deputyships
- Preparing and submitting Court of Protection applications
- Advising on Mental Capacity Act 2005 issues, best interest decisions and deputyship responsibilities
- Representing clients in Court of Protection proceedings
- Supporting professional and lay deputies in managing financial affairs, property and welfare decisions
- Liaising with barristers, medical experts, social workers and financial professionals
- Preparing reports, legal documents, witness statements and OPG submissions
- Maintaining accurate, compliant electronic files and managing your workload effectively
This role is suitable for those with Court of Protection experience, Private Client lawyers looking to transition, or experienced case handlers with at least five years' relevant experience.
Candidate Requirements
You will be someone who takes pride in delivering an exceptional client experience and who is comfortable working with vulnerable individuals and their support networks. You will bring:
- Qualified Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive (typically 2+ years PQE), or
- An experienced case handler with 5+ years' Court of Protection experience
- Excellent communication and client care skills, with the ability to build trust quickly
- Strong time management and organisational abilities
- Exceptional attention to detail and a methodical approach
- Professionalism, discretion and the ability to handle sensitive information
- Confidence working collaboratively with colleagues and external professionals
- The ability to remain calm under pressure and manage competing priorities
- Strong technical understanding of mental capacity law and related processes
