Our client, a rapidly expanding global Software as a Service (SaaS) organisation operating within the HR technology sector, is entering an exciting phase of growth and transformation following significant international investment. As part of this evolution, they are seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to join their global legal function and support their continued expansion across the UK, EU, and international markets.
About the Role
This is a high impact position offering broad exposure to commercial, data protection, and technology focused legal work within a fast paced, international environment. The successful candidate will work closely with senior stakeholders, including the General Counsel (based in Australia), the UK Sales team, and colleagues across the global legal team.
The role requires strong commercial acumen, excellent communication skills, and the ability to provide pragmatic, business focused legal advice. Experience within the SaaS sector is essential, and familiarity with the EU AI Act is highly advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
- Client Contract Management & Negotiation Lead and support negotiations for client contracts, renewals, and upsell opportunities in partnership with the Sales team.
- Data Protection & AI Compliance Own and drive UK/EU data protection strategy, ensuring compliance with global privacy regulations and emerging AI governance requirements.
- General Commercial Legal Support Provide timely, commercially relevant advice across a range of areas including privacy, intellectual property, employment, litigation, and supplier agreements.
- Cross Functional Collaboration Act as a trusted adviser to internal teams, supporting strategic initiatives and contributing to the organisation's global growth objectives.
About You
Our client is seeking a candidate who brings:
- 4-6 years' post qualification experience (PQE)
- Strong commercial law background, ideally with in house experience
- Proven expertise in global data protection and contract negotiation
- Experience within the SaaS or broader technology sector (essential)
- Understanding of the EU AI Act (advantageous)
- Licence to practise in England & Wales or Ireland
- A pragmatic, solutions focused approach with the ability to balance legal risk and commercial priorities
- A proactive mindset, willingness to learn, and comfort working autonomously
