Legal Counsel - Risk & Compliance - Bristol - 2+ Years PQE
Location: Bristol
Type of Role: Permanent, Full-time or 4 days per week (hybrid working available)
Salary: £60,000 to £80,000 (depending on experience)
A highly respected international law firm is seeking a Legal Counsel to join its expanding UK Risk & Compliance Department in Bristol. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified lawyer to take on a varied, high impact role within a collaborative, forward thinking team that plays a central part in the firm's operations and regulatory obligations.
The Role
You will report to the General Counsel and provide legal and regulatory support across the business. Responsibilities include:
- Advising on conflicts of interest
- Anti money laundering (AML) queries and compliance
- Reviewing and advising on engagement terms
- Handling complaints and professional negligence claims
- Advising on data protection matters
- Supporting on commercial contracts
- Liaising with insurers and brokers
- Drafting guidance notes, policies, and training materials
- Delivering training to practice groups and new joiners
- Supporting firm wide risk and compliance projects
- Contributing to policy development and implementation
- Building strong internal stakeholder relationships
Candidate Requirements
This role is suited to a qualified Solicitor or Barrister (England & Wales or equivalent Commonwealth jurisdiction) with:
- Experience in a regulated business environment
- Exposure to governance, risk, compliance, or related legal areas (e.g., professional negligence, data protection, commercial contracts)
- Strong understanding of relevant statutory and regulatory frameworks
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to meet deadlines
- Confidence in making business critical decisions
- Strong communication and influencing skills
- A proactive, energetic, and solutions focused approach
- Ability to manage expectations across varied stakeholder groups
