Childcare Lawyer - Taunton

Our client is seeking an ambitious and passionate Child Law Lawyer to join one of their South West offices in this thriving, well-established and growing regional firm with a strong reputation across Devon and Somerset.

The Role

You will play a key role within a specialist child law team, handling a broad and rewarding caseload covering both public and private children matters.

The team advises and represents a wide range of clients including children, parents, extended family members and guardians across all stages of proceedings. The work is varied, often complex, and highly rewarding.

Your duties will include:

  • Managing your own caseload of public law childcare matters, including care proceedings and adoption work
  • Acting on private law children cases such as child arrangements and parental responsibility disputes
  • Representing clients at court hearings and working closely with counsel where appropriate
  • Liaising with local authorities, social workers and other professionals involved in proceedings
  • Preparing legal documentation including statements, applications and court bundles
  • Providing clear, practical and empathetic advice to clients in sensitive situations
  • Supporting the wider team and contributing to the continued growth of the department


Candidate Requirements

The firm is keen to hear from candidates with a genuine passion for child law and a commitment to delivering excellent client care.

You will ideally have:

  • Qualified Solicitor or Legal Executive with experience in child / family law
  • Proven ability to manage a childcare caseload independently, particularly public law matters
  • Strong knowledge of Legal Aid and experience working within its framework
  • Confident advocacy skills and experience representing clients in court
  • Children Panel membership (or working towards accreditation) is highly desirable
  • Excellent communication and IT skills, with a professional and empathetic approach
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
