Reflections on a successful year: What partnerships can do for Junior Lawyer Divisions

Thanks to a partnership between the Young Surrey Lawyers and Chadwick Nott, the YSL hosted a variety of great social, networking and educational events and expanded its membership in 2018.

At the start of last year, consultants in our South East team were approached by the YSL and in turn we kicked off a three-year long sponsorship agreement. Penny Heighway and Liam Andrews saw the opportunity to assist the YSL in offering ongoing career advice as well as nurture relationships in the region. They have similar relationships with JLDs right across the SE region

Together, we started 2018 with an informative Careers Seminar kindly held at the TWM Solicitors offices in Guildford. There, Penny and Liam discussed what young lawyers should be thinking about as they approach qualification, how to choose a practice area, as well as general advice for life as an NQ (including practical tips like how to structure your CV). The summer months were then celebrated with a barbecue at Morrison’s office in Redhill— again, with Chadwick Nott consultants on hand to answer any questions about the legal market and potential opportunities for NQs. October was then wrung in with a cocktail making class at the Komo bar in Guildford which was a very sociable and well attended event. The ongoing network building through these events is key: you never know where you’ll end up in your legal career and having friendly faces at a variety of firms is always a good thing.

It’s been a pleasure to work with the YSL, and we’re very much looking forward to what 2019 has in store.
