Private Client Locum Solicitor - Monmouthshire

Start: ASAP

Duration: 3-6 months

Location: Monmouthshire office (minimum 2 days per week in the office, ideally 3)

Working pattern: Full‑time or part‑time considered

Hourly rate: Competitive

Parking: On‑site parking available

Role description

My client is seeking an experienced Private Client Locum Solicitor to join their Monmouthshire office on a temporary basis. The successful candidate will handle a full range of private client matters and must be able to work independently with minimal supervision. A STEP qualification is preferred but not essential. We will also consider highly experienced Legal Executives.

Experience required

  • Qualified Solicitor (preferred) or highly experienced Legal Executive
  • STEP qualification desirable
  • Strong background in private client work, including probate and trusts
  • Ability to manage files autonomously and hit the ground running
  • Confident working with clients, executors, beneficiaries and third parties
  • Strong technical knowledge of wills, estate administration and tax considerations
  • Ability to attend the office 2-3 days per week
  • Excellent communication, organisation and file‑management skills

Typical duties

  • Managing a caseload of private client matters from instruction to completion
  • Advising on and drafting wills, including complex and bespoke wills
  • Preparing and registering Lasting Powers of Attorney
  • Handling probate applications, including Grants of Probate and Letters of Administration
  • Administering estates, including collecting assets, paying liabilities and preparing estate accounts
  • Advising on inheritance tax, reliefs and exemptions
  • Drafting and advising on trusts, including creation, administration and termination
  • Preparing deeds of variation and other associated documents
  • Liaising with executors, trustees, beneficiaries, financial advisers and HMRC
  • Conducting client meetings in person and remotely
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory and firm procedures
  • Maintaining accurate file notes and up‑to‑date case management records
  • Providing clear, empathetic and professional client care throughout
