A highly regarded Private Client team in Cheltenham is seeking an Associate to join its specialist Older and Vulnerable Persons (OVP) group. The team is recognised for its expertise in supporting high net worth individuals and vulnerable clients, including those with brain injuries, dementia, learning disabilities, and mental health conditions.

The Role
You'll be responsible for managing a varied caseload focused on supporting older and vulnerable individuals, including:

  • Meetings with vulnerable clients and their families
  • Liaising with carers, care homes, estate agents, and other professionals
  • Managing financial affairs, including benefit entitlement and care contributions
  • Preparing Court of Protection applications (deputyship, statutory wills, trustee removal, gifting)
  • Drafting Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney
  • Reviewing care plans and preparing annual deputy reports
  • Attending clients in care and community settings
  • Contributing to business development, including networking, articles, and social media
  • Supporting the annual OVP conference and mentoring junior team members
  • Assisting with Legal 500 and Chambers submissions


Candidate Requirements
This role is suited to a qualified solicitor with:

  • 3-6 years PQE in Court of Protection and private client work
  • Experience managing COP Deputyship and Attorneyship files
  • A strong understanding of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Care Act 2014
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Empathy and professionalism in sensitive scenarios
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Leadership qualities and a proactive mindset
  • A passion for supporting vulnerable adults
  • Willingness to contribute to marketing and business development
