According to a 2022 report by Totally Legal1, the average salary for paralegals in London is £32,075. This can vary quite widely depending on the type of business. In-house paralegal jobs tend to attract higher salaries than those in law firms.
Living costs in London
London is notoriously expensive, but housing costs vary depending on the borough. In a central location rent can be over £2,000 a month for a one-bedroom apartment and up to £4,000 for a 3 bed home. If you live further out, for example Croydon or Bromley, you may only pay around £1,400 a month for a similar one bed property, or £2,500 for three bedrooms2. Council tax rates are surprisingly low in central London. In Chelsea, 2023 rates are £1,420 a year for a band D property, while out in Croydon they are £1,590.
Wherever you live in London, you will likely use public transport to get to work each day. The best option is usually a Travelcard which is valid for unlimited travel on all forms of transport. For zone 1 it costs £156 a month, increasing up to £285 a month for zones 1-6.

London is home to six major train stations providing access to all parts of the country for an easy get away at the weekend.
