My client is a local authority in South London. Their Legal Service's team is seeking to recruit an locum Solicitor or Barrister who will undertake legal work within the area of childcare law, advising on legal matters, acting on behalf of the Council and representing the Council in Court at hearing and inquiries.
This is an on-going assignment and is guaranteed for at least three months. This legal services team is progressive and inclusive. They are fully supportive of promoting a work life balance and offer a range of flexible working opportunities at all levels. Arrangements including flexible workings hours, term time working, part time, compressed hours, home working and job share arrangements will all be considered.
The team is seeking an individual who will bring with them experience and knowledge of childcare law as well as practical knowledge of the wider public sector. Knowledge and experience of local government is desirable but not essential.
The ideal candidate will be a qualified Solicitor or Barrister with a current practicing certificate. They will be an effective advocate and communicator with excellent drafting skills and the ability to work with minimum supervision. Applicants should be committed to producing a high quality of work and be able to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
Duties will include:
- Managing a caseload consisting of childcare and related matters
- Advising and preparing applications to Court for orders
- Representing the Council in Court
- Preparing cases and interviewing witnesses
- Drafting papers in connection with proceedings and statements
- Undertaking legal work necessary to manage the caseload fully (with Legal Officer administrative support)
Hourly rate is negotiable dependent upon experience but candidates can expect an offer of £30 - £40 per hour.
