My client, a global medical organisation, are looking to appoint an interim Legal Counsel for 6 months.

Reporting to the Head of Legal, they are looking for a qualified solicitor who can work both as part of a small in-house legal team and independently to provide legal support to the business both UK and Ireland.

The position will be responsible for the provision of legal advice on a wide range of issues affecting the business.

Responsibilities will include;

  • Provides substantive and strategic legal and compliance support to the respective teams, and more specifically advises on the execution of franchise projects in the UK and Ireland;
  • Monitors and influences legal and compliance developments; ensures that the business considers legal and compliance trends and risks in the execution of the business strategy;
  • Drafts complex transactions and directly negotiates agreements for the local organisation i.e. equipment financing agreements, sale and purchase agreements, etc.;
  • Gives complex strategic and contextual legal advice and guidance with strong operational and business acumen by setting legal necessities in context with competing operational needs;
  • Mitigates litigation risk exposure, including risks derived from anti-trust issues and employee relations, to defend and strengthen the organisation's reputation and manages significant disputes, dispute resolutions and litigations and/or investigations;
  • Leads projects within Legal, and provides legal support for commercial initiatives and activities and acts as the data privacy main point of contact

You will also need to provide legal support in relation to a variety of ad-hoc legal matters including data protection, competition law and regulatory issues which may arise as part of the businesses activities. The role entails extensive contact and interaction with business representatives at all levels of the organisation.

From either a private practice or in-house background you will be a qualified solicitor or barrister with a minimum of 5 years PQE and will have demonstrable experience of drafting and negotiating a broad range of commercial contracts.

You will have extensive experience in legal practice, preferably including some experience related to the medical device industry and working in an in-house environment. You will be pragmatic, a strong communicator and must be able to work independently and within a team.
