Document review projects - a lucrative way for lawyers to earn during lockdown

For the past 20 years, Chadwick Nott has placed lawyers from around the world into document review projects based in London to work on extremely high profile litigation matters or regulatory investigations. Encouragingly, over the last 5 years, we have also seen an increase in demand for interim document review lawyers to join project teams based not only in London but also in other key UK legal centres such as Birmingham, Bristol and Manchester.

As with many other industries, we feared Covid-19 and the lockdown would put an end to the growth and expansion of this type of document review work in the UK. At the beginning of the lockdown, this seemed to be the case with quite a few document review projects coming to end while law firms adjusted to the new way of working. However, in the last 2 months, we have seen a rapid bounce back in demand. New projects are now popping up regularly across London and other regional centres requiring experienced document reviewers not only with English language skills but also a wide range of international languages. In the last two months, for example, we have been instructed on projects requiring Dutch, German, Portuguese, Russian and Ukrainian. In addition, the lockdown measures have also given lawyers an opportunity to work on these projects remotely, as long as they have a suitable IT set up at home and adequate Wi-Fi speed.

Chadwick Nott’s clients include both UK & US law firms as well as major LPO’s (Legal Process Outsourcers) who are ideally looking for lawyers with previous document review experience and experience of using the software platform “Relativity”. On most of these projects, lawyers are expected to work 40 hours a week, but there does tend to be some flexibility in terms of working times and for some projects, longer hours are available at premium rates which can become very lucrative.

If you are a qualified lawyer or paralegal and work on these type of projects, there has never been a better time to register with Chadwick Nott’s interim team who would be delighted to have a confidential discussion about the state of the interim market and current opportunities.
